East Tawas is in Iosco County, and in the Northern Region. You can locate this community east of West Branch between Tawas City and Harrisville along US Highway 23 near Tawas Lake and Lake Huron.At the time of the lumber boom Henry Perkins Smith, an investor from New York, sent his son George to scout the area in 1862. In 1867, the Detroit & Mackinaw Railroad established a station in East Tawas. Today, East Tawas today remains a large resort area, with a public beach, pier and community center.
