Grant is in
Newaygo County, and in the
West-Southwest Region. Grant is located at the junction of W. 120th ST. and State Hwy 37. This community is also located north of
Sparta on Hwy 37.
Grant was originally named "Grant Center", in honor of Ulysses S. Grant, in 1882 by one of its first inhabitants, Andrew J. Squier, who built a saw mill there. It was incorporated into a village in 1893.
It functions primarily as a small agricultural community but also as a commuter town to the greater Grand Rapids area.
