Greenbush is in Alcona County, and in the Northern Region. This community is located on US Hwy 23 between Harrisville and Tawas City along the banks of Lake Huron. Greenbush was first settled when the firm of Crosier & Davison established a barrel plant and fishery here in 1849. The Morris & McDougal lumbering firm from New York State later purchase government land here and the community became known as McDougals Landing. In the later part of the 1860s it was named Greenbush after the town of Greenbush New York, at the suggestion of an early settler. Today, Greenbush is mostly a tourist attraction.
