L'Anse

LAnse is in Baraga County (is the county seat), and in the Northern Region. This community is located at the southern end, or bottom of Lanse Bay, part of the larger Keweenau Bay in Lake Superior on US Hwy 41

L'Anse began as a mission to the Indians in 1660 by the French Jesuit priest, Father Rene Menard. Soon after, a Methodist mission was organized here.

Today, the economic base of L'Anse includes mining, lumbering and lumber-related manufacturing as well as tourism.
