Manchester is in Washtenaw County, and in the Southeast Region. Manchester is part of the Ann Arbor, Michigan metro area.

This community is located on State Hwy 52 between Chelsea and Adrian. Manchester is also situated on a hill overlooking a combination dam and bridge on the River Raisin.

Manchester was named after a township by the same name in Ontario County, New York. It was first pioneered by Major John Gilbert in 1833. He received a grant of 400 acres, platted and then surveyed the area. That same year, James Harvey Fargo and his uncle Steven Fargo built the Manchester Mill Company. It was incorporated as a village in 1867.

Today, Manchester serves as a bedroom community to the greater Ann Arbor area.
