Muskegon Heights is in Muskegon County, and in the West-Southwest Region. Muskegon Heights is a major southeastern suburb of the greater Muskegon area. You can locate this community northwest of Grand Rapids on US Hwy 31 along the Muskegon River.

The history of Muskegon Heights goes back to 1890 when town business leaders were looking to stimulate the economy in the county after the lumber boom came to an end; Therefore, they formed the Muskegon Improvement Company which purchased 1000 acres of land. The land was Auctioned off in sections with the earnings used to underwrite new businesses. The plan was such a success, that they were assigned a station on the Chicago & Western Michigan Railroad in 1902. With its minimal distance to Muskegon, the community continued to grow.
