Napoleon is in Jackson County, and in the Central Region (part of the Jackson, Michigan metropolitan area). This community is located off of State Hwy 50 north of Brooklyn.The village was founded in 1830 by , Charles Blackmer, General Abram F. Boltonand and Aaron B. Goodwin. Mr. Goodwin, an admirer of Napoleon Bonaparte, gave the village its name and became its first postmaster on January 5, 1833. When the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railroad arived in 1878 it was given a station.
