Negaunee is in Marquette County, and in the Northern Region. This community is located just west of Marquette between Champion and Marquette along US Highway 41 near Teal and Goose lakes.

The Jackson Iron Company first settled this area in 1846. On January 21,1858 this settlement was given a post office named Naganee, with Edward C. Hungerford as the first postmaster. On February 11, 1858 the spelling was changed to Negaunee. The town of Negaunee was incorporated in 1865, and then later as a city in 1873.
