Orchard Lake

Orchard Lake is in Oakland County, and in the Southeast Region (part of the Detroit, Michigan metropolitan area). This community is located on the southeast banks of its own lake (Orchard Lake) on Orchard Lake Rd. and north east of West Bloomfield.

Orchard Lake was first given its name by Indians in the region who called it: "Menahsagorning," or, Apple Place," referring to the numerous apple trees growing around the lake. A General Joseph Copeland helped plat and organize the town during the early 1870s, which included the building of the Orchard Lake Hotel in 1872. The area slowly grew and was organized as a village in 1927.

Today, Orchard Lake still has much of its natural atmosphere around the lake due to careful zoning and planning while at the same time applying its business strength as seen in its highly developed shopping plazas along Orchard Lake Road adjacent to the old Pontiac Trail.
