This community is located just north of Bay City between Bay City and Standish along Highway 13 near Saginaw Bay. Pinconning is part of the Saginaw-Bay City-Midland, Michigan metro area. The first European settler to reach Pinconning was GeorgeVan Etten, who built a sawmill here. Later, the Detroit & Mackinac Railroad built a line through the area which helped establish the town. Today, Pinconning is mostly popular for the production of Pinconning Cheese, which began around 100 years ago. This is an old style recipe which has a taste somewhere between a colby and a cheddar.
