Port Austin

Port Austin is in Huron County, and in the Central Region. This community is located northeast of Flint along Highway 25 near the Pinnebog and Willow rivers. Situated on the shore of Lake Huron.

P.C. Austin, part owner in a sawmill here in 1839, built a boat dock for himself. When he expanded it for the use of others, he put a street light on a pole for a lighthouse and it became known as Austin's Dock, later as Austin Port, and finally known as Port Austin.

Today, Port Austin has many resorts and motels for people vacationing. There are several parks in the area and numerous recreational activities. The Pinnebog river runs through Port Crescent State Park and is perfect for canoeing and local charter boat captains offer a variety of fishing excursions.
