Romulus is in
Wayne County, and in the
Southeast Region. This community is located just southwest of
Detroit between
Dearborn and
Ann Arbor along Interstate 94 on the banks of the Detroit River near the shore of
Lake Erie.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 25,326, an increase of 2,429 since 1990.
Romulus is part of the Detroit, Michigan metro area.
Samuel McMath and family first settled this land in 1827. He purchased the land, fixed it up, unfortunately died before he was able to bring his family himself. On September 9, 1835 the settlement was given a post office. On April 4, 1871 the area was platted from the estate of Lansing B. Misner and recorded. It was incorporated as a city in 1965.
