The Shrine was founded in 1926 with the canonization of St. Therese of Lisieux, known as "The Little Flower," who died in 1897. This was the first church in North America dedicated to her and was designated a National Shrine in 1998. The church is built with granite and Indiana limestone interspersed with stone blocks from America's states and territories. Each is carved with the state name and flower. Open daily.
