Located on Capitol and Michigan Avenues, this building was dedicated in 1879. One of the first state capitols designed to resemble the U.S. Capitol, this beautiful building features a glass floor, a grand stair case and several chandeliers designed just for the Capitol. The cnandeliers are called the "Michigan" chandeliers because they feature an elk and shield from the state's coat-of-arms. They were originally lit by gas. The building has been restored to reflect the period. Tours are available.
