Tecumseh

Tecumseh is located in Lenawee County southwest of Detroit between Adrian and Ann Arbor along Highway 50 on the banks of the Raisin River near Sand Lake and the Ohio state line. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 8,350, an increase of 888 since 1990.

Tecumseh is part of the Ann Arbor, Michigan metro area.

Tecumseh was first settled in 1824 by three Quakers, Joseph W. Brown, Musgrove Evans and Austin E. Wing. Evans became the first postmaster that same year, and named the town after the great Shawnee Chief, Tecumseh. It functioned as the first county seat from 1826-1837. It was incorporated as a village in 1837, and later as a city in 1953.

Tecumseh's economy is supported by various kinds of small business and industry, including health care, communications equipment and auto parts such as compressors and condensers.
