Waterford

Waterford is located in Oakland County just northwest of Pontiac between Flint and Pontiac along Highway 24 near Tipsico Lake and Orion Lake. Waterford is part of the Alpheus Williams and Captain Archibald Phillips became the first settlers here in 1819. The name of the township and of the village were proposed about 1825 by Shubael Atherton, due to its large area of water surface. Thomas J. Drake became the first postmaster on February 4, 1835. The post office was transferred to and renamed Drayton Plains on August 24, 1858, but the Waterford post office was re-established on November 13, 1858.Detroit, Michigan metro area.
