Farmington is located in Dakota County, in the Twin Cities Metro Region. South of the cities on Hwy 3, Farmington, as its name implies, is proud of its agricultural heritage. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 10,166, an increase of 4,226 since 1990. Farmington is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.
