Visiting Hungry Jack Lodge is a little like stepping back in time to a more rustic era on the Gunflint Trail. Originally built in 1924, today's lodge was the site of one of the founding resorts on the Gunflint Trail. It is filled with unique hand-carved furniture, antiques, and furs that create an atmosphere that takes you back to the "pioneer" days of the great northwoods. The main lodge burned down in 1972, just after the current owner and host, Jerry Parson, bought it. Determined to rebuild, Jerry found a log structure in Grand Marais that he bought and dismantled, and moved, log-by-log, to the resort. He restored the logs to the original finish, then positioned them without using lifting equipment. Now, a two-story, 3,700 square foot building with two fireplaces, the lodge stands as a monument to the pioneer spirit of determination and hard work. 13 secluded cottages with fireplaces are also available. Meals served in main lodge, 14 modern RV campsites with toilets, open all year.
