Created to foster economic growth and vitality, the
Minneapolis Convention Center hosts activities and events to benefit and showcase the city of Minneapolis. Expansion of the Minneapolis Convention Center is currently underway; when completed in December 2001, the Center will add two exhibit halls, 39 meeting rooms, a 3400-seat auditorium, a 34,000-sq-ft column-free pre-function lobby, a newly remodeled kitchen, and mezzanine storage space. These new facilities will add 670,000 gross square feet of building area to the existing 800,000 gross square feet. There are 4 main public entrance rotundas located on Second Avenue South & Grant Street; designated handicap entrances (power-assisted doors) are adjacent to Plaza 3 and the 12th Street entrance.
