Costumed guides set the stage for exploration at the North West Company Fur Post, reconstructed on its original 1804 site, and including an Ojibwe wigwam. From the early 1500s to roughly 1840, the North American fur trade brought American Indians and Euro-Americans together at sites such as this for the exchange of goods and furs; today, the post serves as the site for such activities as wild ricing, historical displays and demonstrations, and Children's Day events. Open summer only May 1-Labor Day; also open September 15-16 for special Fall Gathering event. Located 1.5 miles west of I35 at exit 169 ( Pine County Hwy 7). Admission to the post is free for all visitors.
