Mississippi Bluffs Region, Northfield is located in
Rice County, south of the Twin Cities on Highway 3 along the banks of the Cannon River near Faribault. Both St. Olaf and Carleton College are nearby. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 16,174, an increase of 1,490 since 1990.
