In the
West Central Lakes Region, Ortonville is the seat of
Big Stone County. It lies near the junction of US 75 and US 12, on Big Stone Lake, on the border of South Dakota. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,960, a decrease of 245 since 1990.
