Historic Prairies Region

These plains were once the home of the Dakota Indians. With westward expansion came settlers from the east and from Europe to farm the land. Now numerous museums and historic sites pay tribute to those earlier inhabitants of the Historic Prairies Region.

A portion of the "V" formed by the Minnesota River lies within this region, and south of it are farmlands dotted with towns rich in the history of those who developed the communities.
