Bolivar is located in
Polk County, of which it is the county seat, north of
Springfield between Halfway and Fairplay along Highway 32 near the Niangua River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 8,248, an increase of 1,403 since 1990.
It was named after Bolivar, TN, which was named for Simn Bolvar, a South American soldier and statesman.
