De Soto Missouri |
De Soto is located in Jefferson County 60 miles S of St Louis along Highway E near Washington State Park. The city was named De Soto in honor of the Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto, (See De Soto National Memorial), who claimed the Louisiana Territory for Spain.
The city had been nicknamed the "Fountain City" because of its many artesian wells. Located south of St Louis.
De Soto is part of the St. Louis, Missouri-Illinois metro area.
