Deutschheim State Historic Site |
Deutschheim's four tour buildings, all in Hermann's historic district, reflect the culture of German immigrants and German Americans across Missouri. The Strehly House, furnished for the 1880s, was the site of the first German print shop west of St. Louis, and the radical newspaper Lichtfreund ("Friend of Light") and the Wochenblatt ("Weekly Paper") were produced here. The winery is used for arts, crafts and daily life displays. The Pommer-Gentner House is furnished as in the 1840s, and its barn holds a variety of early German tools. An admission fee includes tours of the historic buildings and two period gardens. Tours begin at the office, 109 W. 2nd Street.
