The birthplace of the noted scientist is preserved at the monument, which is southeast of Joplin and 2.5 miles SW of Diamond on County Road V. Carver developed more than 300 byproducts from the peanut and more than 100 from the sweet potato, as well as new uses for cotton, soybeans, cowpeas and other crops.
