On Oct 16, 1978, Lee's Summit Hospital (then known as National Gerimedical Hospital) opened its doors. It started with 30 available beds, a medical staff of 65 physicians, 38 nurses and 113 support staff that included dietitians, housekeepers, lab technicians, physical therapists, secretaries, bookkeepers and accounting personnel.
Today, Lee?s Summit Hospital is a 102-bed acute care facility, offering area residents a wide array of inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical care in a setting that is close to home. It is a private institution, part of HCA Midwest. They have a staff of 426 and their medical staff numbers 356 representing 43 specialties. In 2002 they touched 100,000 lives through their programs, services and education programs.
