Patee House was one of the finest hotels west of the
Mississippi River when it was opened in 1858. It was also the headquarters for the
Pony Express. The museum contains the recreated
Hannibal and St Joseph Railroad and Pony Express offices, a woodburning locomotive and mail car of the 1860s, a street with life-szie models of St. Joseph buildings from the early 1900s, Pony Express items and antique transportation and communication equipment.
Also on the site is the Jesse James Home.
