Laplata Public Library, serving an area of 1,470 residents, has a collection of 16,800 books and periodicals; in addition, there are 72 CDs, records, cassettes and other audio materials, as well as 460 video items, such as DVDs and VHS tapes. Internet terminals are available for use by the general public. Staffing consists of one employee, including one fully accredited librarian, plus volunteers. Annual expenditures on the library collection total $3,300. Patrons make 8,800 visits annually, and check out materials 8,800 times. Thirty percent of all check-outs are children's materials.

This event also features pedal tractor pull, a pie baking contest, and a corn shucking contest just to name a few. This event alone typically brings over 5,000 patrons to downtown Oskaloosa.
