Search Visit Montana

The Big Sheep Creek - Medicine Lodge Backcountry Byway is a scenic drive through the backcountry of SW Montana. Fifty miles of two-lane gravel road with a short stretch of one-lane dirt surface, the drive can be safely accomplished from May through early October. From the south, the byway passes the high rock cliffs of Big Sheep Canyon and Big Sheep Creek Wildlife Watching Area. The trip also offers good fishing and photographic opportunities.

There are restrooms along the byway. The Bureau of Land Management warns that portions of the road are impassable when wet.
