Holter Lake Recreation Area is located in west central Montana near
Helena. There are well maintained campgrounds available. It is in an open, grassy area near the shore of Holter Lake surrounded by sparsely wooded hills. There is a prairie dog town just down the road and food service within close proximity of these
Bureau of Land Management sites.
The area has great opportunities for boating, riding, swimming, wildlife observation, hiking and fishing. Also 140 camping units, 3 designated swimming areas, 2 multi-laned boat ramps, docks with about 60 slips, and 2 large information kiosks.
The area is north of Helena via Interstate 15. Take Exit 226 at Wolf Creek and follow the Recreation Frontage Road northeast about 3 miles, then 2 more miles east on gravel road.
