Rattlesnake National Recreation Area |
The Rattlesnake is an all-season recreation area. There are three trailheads, two of which are on Sawmill Gulch Road and the other farther up Rattlesnake Drive for horses and trailers. There's a bridge across the creek for horses only. At the horse trailhead, there's a stock ramp and a loading structure for handicapped riders. The main trailhead has handicapped access toilets. The area is closed to dogs in winter to protect elk on their winter range and during calving season.
To reach the NRA, follow Van Buren Street from Missoula to Rattlesnake Drive, about 2.5 miles. The Main Trailhead is on Sawmill Gulch Road, follow the signs. The horse trailhead is straight ahead on the left.
