The seat of Toole County, Shelby is located between Dunkirk and Ethridge near Lake Elwell. Shelby sits at the junction of US 2 and I-15, 35 miles south of the Canadian border. The Burlington Northern/Santa Fe East and West Main line track pass through Shelby, linking Chicago to Seattle and Canada to the U.S. and Mexico.It is best remembered as the site of the 1923 Dempsey-Gibbon fight.
