The seat of
Broadwater County, Townsend is located 32 miles southeast of
Helena between Toston and Winston on US 287/12 near Indian Road Recreation Area. It is host to Broadwater County Museum.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 2,092, an increase of 457 since 1990.
