Townsend Ranger District

The Townsend Ranger District is one of three on the [helenanf]. The district manages approximately 273,000 acres, including the Big Belt Mountains and Elkhorn Mountains. Maps, firewood permits, Christmas tree permits, and general forest information are available at the ranger station, located on State Hwy 287 just east of Townsend, 32 miles south of Helena.
