The Yellowstone Art Center was founded in 1964 by a local group and has grown into a fully accredited museum. Success has caused it to outgrow its facility. For more than 30 years, it was housed in the renovated, former
Yellowstone County Jail. Construction of a new building was undertaken in 1996 and the new facilities were inaugurated in early 1998.
Along with the name change and new building came a new logo. Ferdinand is the contemporary horse sculpture by internationally known artist Deborah Butterfield. The physical version of the logo welcomes visitors to the museum's new space.
