Located on the southwest coast of Mexico, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is set against the lush backdrop of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains. An impeccable, tree-lined boulevard divides the high-rise hotels on one side from a string of small-scale malls on the other. Two world-class golf courses keep guests busy along with deep sea fishing and tennis. Ixtapa is also home to Mexico's best Pacific Coast diving, fishing and ocean swimming. Visit Zihuatanejo a few kilometers (and a world) away. Zihuatanejo features comfortable, family-run inns and reasonably priced hotels and bungalows. With its seaside cafes, intriguing native markets, Zihuatanejo is great fun to explore. The waterfront walkway, which is romantically lit at night by gas lanterns, leads to a number of seafood restaurants and to the archaelogy museum.Hotels in the Zihuatanejo bay area are generally older and smaller than those in Ixtapa. But, as it turns out, the area is also home to the resort's most exceptional hotels.
