Small ranches started to settle in the area known then as Las Californias after Mission San Diego de Alcal was founded in the late 1700's. One of these was called "El Rosario". Farmers and ranchers started settling in the 1820's. The area ranges from the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean - some with working corn-field rancherias - down to the beaches. Today, Rosarito is full of fun oriented activities for the whole family. Discos, volley-ball courts and nearby surfing spots. Restaurants of all price ranges and taste can be found. The pier extending from the Rosarito Beach Hotel and the beach along the city are great spots to enjoy.
