Nuevo Leon, the smallest of the five Mexican states that border the U.S., is the nation's largest producer of citrus fruits. The state enjoys prosperity and a literacy rate of 95%, one of the highest in the country. The state capital, Monterrey, is the third-largest city in Mexico. Much of the state's population is centered in and around this area.
