Originally inhabited and used by the Mi'kmaq and Maliseet as a place to live and source of food, the Restigouche River area is still the best place in Canada to camp and fish for salmon. The waters still run clear, and viewing is possible due to approximately sixty salmon pools. The river also presents exciting opportunities for future interpretation, wildlife viewing, canoeing, and camping.
