The Eno River Association is a non-profit organization founded in 1965 and incorporated in 1975 to protect the Eno River from the threats of development and pollution. The Eno River is located in central North Carolina and it is part of the Neuse River Basin. The Eno flows through both Orange and Durham Counties, passing through the towns of Durham and Hillsborough, where the pressures for urban sprawl are great, and where the river is most in need of protection. The Eno today is still a free-flowing stream and its waters clean enough to support endangered species. Its banks are decorated by inspiring woodlands, historic mill sites, and stunning wildflowers in the spring. Federal, state and city parklands of considerable dimensions are forming along the river to act as a refuge from continuing urban sprawl, and serve as a natural setting for canoeists, rafters, picnickers, photographers, bird lovers, wildflower enthusiasts and hikers.
