The North Carolina Zoological Park is located on the hills of the Uwharrie Mountains, near Asheboro. It features polar bears, sea lions, seabirds, river otters, bison, elk, alligators, elephants, rhinoceros, chimpanzees, baboons, gorillas, giraffes, zebras, ostriches, tropical birds, dozens of other species. It offers free parking, shuttle buses between parking lots, lockers, gift shops, restaurants, and trams to various locations, refreshment stands, outdoor amphitheater, stroller rental, and picnic areas.
