After the Civil War, William Iredell Gore and his wife, Rachel, decided to settle in Wilmington, the thriving port city at the mouth of the Cape Fear River and one of the most important cities of the South. William, a former officer in the Confede rate Army's Waccamaw Light Infantry, started a successful wholesale grocery business, and in 1875, the prospering couple built a charming Italianate Victorian house at 410 Orange Street. Today, that house is known as The Inn On Orange. It has been lovingly restored both inside and out and is furnished with antiques and period reproductions. You will enjoy charming rooms, wonderful breakfast, and a friendly, warm relaxing atmosphere.
