Avery Health Care System was formed in 1995 when two rural hospitals in Avery County, N.C., merged under one board of directors and president. They serve permanent and seasonal residents by providing hospital primary care, physician specialty services, extended healthcare, restorative care, home care, behavioral health services and sleep studies. Avery Health Care System includes Charles A. Cannon Jr. Memorial Hospital and considers preventive medicine and community projects part of its mission.
