Surry County northeast of
Winston-Salem along US Highway 52 on the banks of the Ararat River near
Pilot Mountain,
Dobson, and the Virginia state line.
Mount Airy was the fictional town of Mayberry and the childhood hometown of Andy Griffith. Visit the Andy Griffith Museum, Mayberry Jail, Floyd's Barber Shop, and the world's largest open-faced granite quarry.
