Rutherfordton is located in
Rutherford County (of which it is the county seat) between
Forest City and
Lake Lure at the junction of US Hwy 64 and US Hwy 221 near
Spindale, the Broad River, and the Green River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 3,550, a decrease of 67 since 1990.
