Mountains Region |
North Carolina's Mountains Region offers stunning natural beauty as well as a heritage rich in the history of Native Americans and other mountain people. The Blue Ridge and Unaka mountain ranges cover much of the region, and can be viewed from mountain to mountain along such routes as the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Cherohala Skyway. Other natural features include mountain streams, waterfalls and whitewater rivers such as the Nantahala, Nolichucky and the French Broad.
Another popular attraction of the region is the Biltmore House, an opulent 250-room chateau which is the largest private residence in America.
