Hettinger

Hettinger is located in southwestern North Dakota in Adams County just north of the South Dakota state line; Bowman Haley Lake and Dam lie about 30 miles to the west.

The area was known as the hub of the American Buffalo population. In the 1880s, they numbered about 10,000 after a peak estimated to be 60 to 75 million animals continent-wide.

Today, upland game birds such as pheasant, sharptail grouse and Hungarian partridge as well as larger mammals such as white tail deer, mule deer and antelope populate the rolling prairies.
