LaMoure is located in southeastern North Dakota in LaMoure County (of which it is the county seat) 40 miles south of Jamestown on the banks of the James River.Nearby Lake LaMoure was created in the early 1970s for the purpose of having a fishing lake closer to town than Jim Lake. The cozy 500-acre impound was made possible by the damming of Cottonwood Creek. Amenities include swimming beach, boat landings, restrooms and picnic tables. Memorial Park Country Club, a semi-private facility with an open guest policy, invites golfers to challenge their 9-hole, par 36, 3,150-yard layout.
